Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust (YDRT) is part of the wider Rivers Trust movement, a united network of like-minded organisations that work together to create meaningful and lasting change for our natural environment.
“With rivers under threat as never before, the Rivers Trusts are uniquely positioned to make a tangible difference – YDRT is an exciting boots on the ground organisation that I’m very proud to be a part of, and helping it to grow has been an incredible privilege” Jamie (Chair of Trustees)
Their vision is: wild, healthy, natural rivers valued by all. In the last few years, the trust has experienced significant growth. By diversifying their income and strengthening their team they have the capability to deliver meaningful environmental outcomes across Yorkshire.
At a pivotal point, as they begin to deliver their new 2026-2030 Strategic Plan, we are delighted to be working with them to recruit a Treasurer to join the Board of Trustees.
Do you have financial expertise, sound judgement and a collaborative approach to governance? If so this is an incredible opportunity to make a difference as part of a truly inspirational team.
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the YDRT team of trustees. The role is integral to their strategic leadership. As Treasurer you will be responsible for the charity’s finances, providing oversight to ensure decisions are robust and remain resilient in an increasingly complex funding world.
The main responsibilities include:
- Developing and overseeing all financial affairs
- Ensuring financial measures, controls and procedures are in place
- Working closely with the Chair, CEO, Finance Manager, and fellow Trustees to safeguard the Trust’s financial sustainability and support the delivery of its charitable objectives.
- Providing strategic financial leadership to the Board and ensuring that the Trust complies with all relevant legal, regulatory and financial obligations.
The Person
We are looking for someone whose personal values align with YDRT and their mission. A passion for protecting and enhancing the rivers, streams and catchments of the Yorkshire Dales is essential.
You must have a professional accounting qualification or equivalent financial experience to apply for this position. You should also have a commitment to good governance, have integrity, sound judgement and the ability to work collaboratively.
Communication skills, a keen eye for detail and the ability to explain financial matters to non-financial audiences are essential to the role.
Why YDRT?
YDRT is an ambitious and growing environmental charity. What began as a small group of passionate volunteers has evolved into a respected and influential organisation with a growing team of 17 staff and a dedicated board of volunteer trustees.
Despite their growth, they remain rooted in the values that have shaped them from the start: collaboration, practical action, scientific evidence and a commitment to delivering lasting environmental change.
It is an exciting time to join – as they enter an exciting new phase of development. Building on the success of their recent strategy, they are expanding their impact, developing larger multi-benefit projects, strengthening partnerships and increasing their influence across the region.
As the challenges facing our rivers continue to grow, so does the opportunity to create meaningful and lasting change. Whether through governance, volunteering, partnership working or project delivery, everyone involved with the Trust plays an important role in helping to shape healthier rivers and more resilient catchments for future generations.
Do you want to bring your skills to this proactive and passionate team, and make a difference for future generations?
Please note the role is hybrid, based from the trusts offices in Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire. The initial term is for 3 years, then subject to the Trust’s Articles of Association and Trustee policies. The role is part time with an estimated commitment of 4 to 8 hours per month, with additional time during budget setting and annual accounts preparation. Initially there will be additional time required for familiarisation. For more information please see the Recruitment Pack – YDRT
